About United Way

For many people in America, just one unanticipated event, such as the loss of a job or a steep rise in food prices, can force a family to choose between paying for child care, medicine and rent.

These problems are caused by deeper issues that face our nation: 25% of high school students across the country do not graduate on time; 40% of lower-income families in America are financially unstable; and, 1/3 of all people in America are unhealthy, obese or involved in unhealthy habits such as smoking or drugs.

United Way works to change that. In partnership with community-based leaders and organizations United Way leads initiatives that achieve measurable results and improve the Education, Income and Health that allow us to create opportunities for a better life for all. We have set bold goals to guide us in our work - by 2018, we as a nation must:

  • Cut by half the number of young people who drop out of high school.
  • Cut by half the number of lower-income families that lack financial stability
  • Increase by one third the number of youth and adults who are healthy and avoid behaviors that are risky to their health

We all win when everyone in our community thrives, and it's up to us to work together and help each other. When we reach out a hand to one, we can influence the condition of all. At United Way, we have established a call-to-action - LIVE UNITED - to motivate everyone to help by donating time through giving, advocating and volunteering.

Whether you choose to mentor at a local elementary school, volunteer at a soup kitchen, make a donation to your public library or write a letter to a local representative about an important community issue, you LIVE UNITED and your actions will positively impact your community for generations to come.

We invite you to be a part of the change.
